Research for Equity And Community Health Trust (REACH)





The Research for Equity And Community Health Trust grew out of a long established research collaboration between the Malawian National TB Control Programme, the Department of Sociology, University of Malawi and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. REACH Trust conducts international and national recognised multidisciplinary research that promotes access to health services, particularly for the poorest and most vulnerable. REACH Trust conducts research that generates knowledge on understanding the interface between the national and international socio-economic development and communicable disease, especially malaria, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.


Principal Investigator: Dr Ireen Namakhoma 

Ireen Namakhoma is currently the Acting Executive Director for Research for Equity And Community Health Trust. She has a strong profile in undertaking social science research and mentoring of young researchers. She has supported social science research in Malawi and Zambia. 


Dr Bertha Simwaka


Bertha Simwaka championed establishment of REACH.  She has undertaken a number of high profile social science studies and evaluations of malaria interventions.  She will be the lead person in these activities
